This authentic and easy chicken gyros recipe is made from scratch, featuring marinated chicken wrapped in pita with fresh vegetables and tzatziki sauce.

- 2 lbs boneless chicken thighs
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Juice of 2 lemons
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 cucumber, grated
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
- Pita bread, for serving
- Tomatoes, sliced
- Onions, sliced
- Lettuce, shredded
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper to make the marinade.
- Add chicken thighs to the marinade and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
- Grill the chicken for 6-8 minutes per side until fully cooked.
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes, then slice into strips.
- In a separate bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, dill, and a pinch of salt to make tzatziki sauce.
- Assemble gyros by placing chicken in pita bread and topping with tzatziki, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce.
Notes
For best results, use fresh ingredients and let the chicken marinate overnight. Adjust seasoning to taste.
