Description
A classic grilled chicken recipe where the bird is cooked upright on a can of beer for moist, flavorful results.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole chicken (about 4–5 pounds)
- 1 can (12 ounces) of beer
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375Β°F).
- In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and dried thyme.
- Rub the olive oil all over the chicken, then sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the chicken, inside and out.
- Open the beer can and pour out about half of the beer. Place the beer can on a stable surface and carefully lower the chicken onto the can so that the can is inside the cavity of the chicken.
- Place the chicken on the grill, using the legs and beer can as a tripod to keep it stable. Cover the grill and cook for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165Β°F.
- Carefully remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.
Notes
For best results, use a beer can chicken holder for stability. Ensure the grill is not too hot to prevent burning.
