Description

A classic grilled chicken recipe where the bird is cooked upright on a can of beer for moist, flavorful results.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken (about 45 pounds)
  • 1 can (12 ounces) of beer
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375Β°F).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and dried thyme.
  3. Rub the olive oil all over the chicken, then sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the chicken, inside and out.
  4. Open the beer can and pour out about half of the beer. Place the beer can on a stable surface and carefully lower the chicken onto the can so that the can is inside the cavity of the chicken.
  5. Place the chicken on the grill, using the legs and beer can as a tripod to keep it stable. Cover the grill and cook for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165Β°F.
  6. Carefully remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.

Notes

For best results, use a beer can chicken holder for stability. Ensure the grill is not too hot to prevent burning.
