This Dutch apple pie features a tender, buttery crust and a spiced apple filling with a crunchy streusel topping.

- Crust:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 6–8 tablespoons ice water
- Filling:
- 8 cups thinly sliced apples (about 8 medium apples)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Streusel Topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the crust: In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add ice water one tablespoon at a time until dough forms. Divide in half, shape into disks, wrap, and chill for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out one dough disk and fit into a 9-inch pie plate.
- Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, toss apples with sugars, flour, spices, salt, and lemon juice. Pour into crust.
- Prepare the streusel: Mix flour, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon until crumbly. Sprinkle over filling.
- Roll out the second dough disk and place over the pie, or use for lattice if desired. Trim and crimp edges.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and bubbly. Cool before serving.
Notes
For a flakier crust, ensure butter is very cold. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
