Description
A classic German chocolate cake layered with cherries and whipped cream.
Ingredients

- 200g dark chocolate, chopped
- 200g unsalted butter
- 200g caster sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 200g self-raising flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 400g cherries, pitted
- 2 tbsp kirsch
- 300ml double cream
- 50g icing sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Grease and line two 20cm sandwich tins.
- Melt the chocolate and butter in a bowl over simmering water, then stir in the sugar.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then fold in the flour and baking powder.
- Divide the batter between the tins and bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
- For the filling, mix cherries with kirsch. Whip the cream with icing sugar until soft peaks form.
- Assemble the cake by layering the sponges with cherry mixture and cream.
Notes
Ensure cherries are well-drained for the best texture. Chill before serving.
