Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and black food coloring.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, beating until fluffy.
- Frost the cooled cakes and stack them for a layered effect.
