- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a small 6-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and egg to the dry ingredients; mix until well combined.
- Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (it will be thin).
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a richer flavor, add chocolate chips to the batter. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
