A classic holiday dessert featuring a rolled chocolate sponge cake filled with creamy frosting, decorated to resemble a yule log.

- 4 large eggs, separated
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- For the filling:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, beat egg yolks with sugar until thick and pale. Sift in flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt; fold gently.
- In another bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold into yolk mixture.
- Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until done.
- While warm, invert cake onto a towel dusted with powdered sugar. Roll up and cool.
- For filling: Whip cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff.
- Unroll cake, spread filling, and re-roll. Frost and decorate as desired.

Ensure the cake is rolled while warm for the best shape. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
