  • Author: Chef Lalybeth
  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 8 1x

Description

A comforting dessert made with stale bread, raisins, cinnamon, and a creamy custard base, baked until golden and served warm.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups of cubed day-old bread
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread, raisins, and cinnamon; toss to mix.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well blended.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread mixture and stir gently to coat.
  5. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
  6. Pour into the prepared baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until set and golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use challah or brioche bread. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
