Classic Scalloped Potatoes with Gruyere and Cheddar

Creamy, cheesy scalloped potatoes layered with Gruyere and Cheddar for a rich and comforting side dish.


Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. In a bowl, mix heavy cream, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  3. Layer half the potato slices in the baking dish. Pour half the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle with half the Gruyere and Cheddar. Repeat layers.
  4. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  5. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
