Description

A classic Italian dish featuring steak simmered in a flavorful tomato sauce with herbs and vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 2 beef steaks (about 1-inch thick)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season the steaks with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the steaks and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add onion and garlic; sautΓ© until softened.
  5. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil; bring to a simmer.
  6. Return the steaks to the skillet and spoon sauce over them.
  7. Cover and cook on low heat for 20-25 minutes until steaks are tender.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the sauce.
