Description

A classic Italian dish featuring steak simmered in a flavorful tomato sauce with garlic and herbs.


Ingredients

  • 2 ribeye steaks (about 1-inch thick)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add garlic, onion, and bell pepper. SautΓ© for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Return the steaks to the skillet, spooning sauce over them. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes until steaks are cooked to desired doneness.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

For a spicier version, increase the red pepper flakes. Pair with crusty bread or pasta.
