Description
A comforting and decadent side dish featuring layers of thinly sliced potatoes baked in a rich, creamy garlic sauce and topped with a golden, bubbly cheese crust.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Crust:
- 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with the softened butter.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Arrange a single layer of potato slices in the prepared baking dish. Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the layer and sprinkle with some of both cheeses. Repeat the layers until all potatoes, cream, and cheese are used, finishing with a cheese layer on top.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a knife.
- Let the bake rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken.
