Dad’s Creamy Cheesy Au Gratin Potatoes

Description

A rich and creamy potato casserole layered with cheese and baked to perfection.


Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, sliced thinly
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Optional: 1/2 cup breadcrumbs for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sautΓ© until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the heavy cream, milk, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over them and sprinkle with half of the cheese.
  5. Add the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and top with the rest of the cheese. If using, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

This dish pairs well with roasted meats. For a crispier top, broil for the last 2 minutes.
