Description
Delicious Portuguese-Hawaiian donuts, soft and sweet, perfect for breakfast or dessert. These malasadas are fried to golden perfection and coated in sugar.
Ingredients

- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- oil for frying
- additional granulated sugar for coating
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F.
- Punch down dough and divide into 12-15 pieces. Roll into balls.
- Fry in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
- Roll in granulated sugar while warm.
Notes
These are best enjoyed fresh. Store in an airtight container, but reheat in the oven for crispiness.
