Easy Hawaiian Style Malasadas Recipe

Description

Delicious Portuguese-Hawaiian donuts, soft and sweet, perfect for breakfast or dessert. These malasadas are fried to golden perfection and coated in sugar.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • oil for frying
  • additional granulated sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F.
  5. Punch down dough and divide into 12-15 pieces. Roll into balls.
  6. Fry in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Roll in granulated sugar while warm.

Notes

These are best enjoyed fresh. Store in an airtight container, but reheat in the oven for crispiness.
