Description

A soft and spicy gingerbread sheet cake decorated like gingerbread men, perfect for holiday celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup hot water
  • For frosting: 4 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 4-6 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in molasses and eggs.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with hot water, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Allow cake to cool completely before frosting.
  7. For frosting: Beat powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Spread over cooled cake and decorate as desired.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Add more spices for a stronger flavor.
