- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cups water or chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon turmeric for color
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onion and cook until golden and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
- Stir in the jasmine rice and cook for 2 minutes to toast.
- Pour in the water or broth and add salt; bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice is tender.
- Fluff with a fork and serve hot.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth. This rice pairs well with grilled meats or as a side dish.
