  • Author: Chef Lalybeth
  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6 1x

Description

A classic bread pudding made with stale bread, eggs, milk, and sugar, served with a homemade vanilla sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups stale bread, cubed
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • For the Vanilla Sauce:
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the cubed bread to the mixture and stir until the bread is well coated. Let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. While the pudding is baking, prepare the vanilla sauce: In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  6. Remove the sauce from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.
  7. Serve the bread pudding warm, drizzled with the vanilla sauce.
