Description
A classic bread pudding made with stale bread, eggs, milk, and sugar, served with a homemade vanilla sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups stale bread, cubed
- 2 cups milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- For the Vanilla Sauce:
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease a baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add the cubed bread to the mixture and stir until the bread is well coated. Let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb the liquid.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the pudding is baking, prepare the vanilla sauce: In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove the sauce from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.
- Serve the bread pudding warm, drizzled with the vanilla sauce.
