Description

A comforting British dish featuring minced meat, vegetables, and a mashed potato topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  3. Add diced onion, carrots, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in frozen peas, beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden and the filling is bubbling.

Notes

For a traditional version, use lamb instead of beef. Adjust seasoning to taste.
