Description

A quick and flavorful Korean-inspired dish featuring ground beef stir-fried with soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and brown sugar, served over rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • For serving: Cooked rice, sliced cucumbers

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, and black pepper.
  3. Pour the sauce over the browned beef and stir to combine. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the green onions and sesame seeds.
  5. Serve the beef mixture over cooked rice, garnished with sliced cucumbers if desired.

Notes

For a spicier version, increase the amount of red pepper flakes. This recipe pairs well with steamed vegetables.
