Description
Buttery, melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies with a hint of peppermint, shaped into festive stars and decorated with a simple glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Crust:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- Crushed candy canes for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just barely starting to turn golden. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cookies and immediately sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
