Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • For the cookie dough layer: 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup flour (heat-treated), 1/4 cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Mix in cocoa powder, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda; gradually add to the wet mixture.
  6. Spread half the batter into the prepared pan.
  7. For the cookie dough layer: Mix brown sugar and butter until creamy; add flour, milk, and vanilla, then spread over the batter.
  8. Top with remaining batter and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.

Notes

These bars are egg-free in the dough layer for safe eating; store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
