  • Author: Chef Lalybeth
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 1x

Description

Classic Salisbury steak made with ground beef patties simmered in a savory onion gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, bread crumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 6 oval patties.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion slices and cook until softened.
  3. Push onions to the side and add the patties. Brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth and flour until smooth. Pour over the patties and onions.
  5. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes until patties are cooked through and gravy is thickened.
  6. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use beef stock instead of broth. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
