Description

Classic butter cookies from Germany, perfect for holidays with a rich, buttery flavor.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the egg yolk and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic and chill for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Roll out dough and cut into shapes, then place on baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden.

Notes

These cookies can be decorated with icing for special occasions.
