For the Crust:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
 - 3/4 cup granulated sugar
 - 1 large egg
 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 - 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
 - 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
 - 1/4 cup coarse white sanding sugar
 - 1/4 cup coarse gold sanding sugar

Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
 - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
 - Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). On a floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet, sprinkle generously with the white and gold sanding sugars, and bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden.
