Description

A classic American dessert featuring baked apples topped with a sweet, biscuit-like crust.


Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the apples, 1/2 cup sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
  3. Pour into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, stir together the flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add egg, milk, and melted butter; mix until smooth.
  5. Pour over the apples.
  6. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for the best flavor.
