Description

These heart-shaped sugar cookies are perfect for Valentine’s Day, decorated with red icing and sprinkles for a sweet treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half and add red food coloring to one half if desired.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
  9. Place cookies on the baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  10. Let cool completely before decorating with icing and sprinkles.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days. For extra flavor, use almond extract instead of vanilla.
