Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half and add red food coloring to one half if desired.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
- Place cookies on the baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes.
- Let cool completely before decorating with icing and sprinkles.
Notes
Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days. For extra flavor, use almond extract instead of vanilla.
