Description

These adorable Valentine’s Day cookies are shaped like conversation hearts and decorated with sweet messages. Perfect for sharing with loved ones.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (red, pink, etc.)
  • Royal icing for decorating

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into portions and tint with food coloring.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
  9. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  10. Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing.

Notes

For the best results, use gel food coloring and let the icing dry completely. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
