Description
Crispy, golden phyllo rolls filled with creamy feta cheese, baked until perfect, and served with a sweet tart cranberry honey syrup. A perfect party appetizer that combines salty and sweet flavors.
Ingredients
Scale
- For the Feta Rolls:
- 1 package phyllo dough (about 16 sheets), thawed
- 8 oz block feta cheese
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
- For the Sweet Cranberry Honey:
- 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Zest of 1 orange
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2. Cut the feta block into 1-inch wide sticks or cubes.
- 3. Gently unfold the phyllo dough and keep it covered with a damp towel to prevent drying.
- 4. Lay one strip of phyllo on a clean surface. Brush lightly with melted butter. Place a piece of feta at one end. Fold the sides over and roll up into a neat log. Repeat with remaining phyllo and feta.
- 5. Place the rolls seam-side down on the baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
- 6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and crisp.
- 7. Meanwhile, make the cranberry honey: In a small saucepan, combine cranberries, honey, orange juice, lemon juice, orange zest, and salt. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook until cranberries burst and the mixture thickens slightly, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- 8. Serve the warm feta rolls with the sweet cranberry honey dipping sauce.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, ensure phyllo is vegetarian. You can also use a mixture of feta and cream cheese for extra creaminess. The cranberry honey can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
