  • Yield: 10-12 1x

Description

A simple and straightforward method for preparing a moist and flavorful Thanksgiving turkey with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12-15 pound) whole turkey, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • Fresh herbs (like rosemary, thyme, and sage)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325Β°F (165Β°C).
  2. Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Rub the oil mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin if possible.
  5. Stuff the turkey cavity with the quartered onion, lemon, and fresh herbs.
  6. Place the turkey breast-side up in a roasting pan. Tie the legs together with kitchen twine.
  7. Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for about 13-15 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 165Β°F (74Β°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
  8. Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.

Notes

Ensure the turkey is completely thawed before cooking. For a crispier skin, baste the turkey every 30-45 minutes.
