A classic patty melt sandwich featuring juicy beef patties, caramelized onions, and a tangy secret sauce, grilled to perfection on rye bread with melted cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • For the secret sauce: 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon relish, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 patties.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and cook onions until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  4. For the sauce, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl.
  5. Assemble sandwiches: Spread sauce on bread slices, add cheese, patty, onions, and another cheese slice, then top with bread.
  6. Grill sandwiches in a skillet until bread is golden and cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Notes

Ensure the patties are not overcooked for a juicy melt. Serve with fries for a complete meal.
