- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 8 slices rye bread
- 8 slices Swiss cheese
- For the secret sauce: 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon relish, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and cook onions until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- For the sauce, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl.
- Assemble sandwiches: Spread sauce on bread slices, add cheese, patty, onions, and another cheese slice, then top with bread.
- Grill sandwiches in a skillet until bread is golden and cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes per side.
