Description

A delightful appetizer combining creamy goat cheese with a crunchy pistachio crust, drizzled with a sweet and spicy blueberry hot honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz goat cheese, softened
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped pistachios
  • 1/2 cup blueberry jam
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup crushed pistachios for coating
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine goat cheese and cream cheese until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Form the cheese mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Place flour, beaten egg, and panko mixed with crushed pistachios in separate bowls.
  4. Roll each cheese ball in flour, then dip in egg, then coat with the pistachio-panko mixture.
  5. Place on a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry the cheese balls until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. In a small saucepan, combine blueberry jam, honey, and red pepper flakes. Heat over medium until warm and combined.
  8. Drizzle the blueberry hot honey over the cheese balls and serve immediately.

Notes

You can also bake the cheese balls at 400°F for 10-12 minutes instead of frying. The hot honey can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
